| KJCShaw : Bio
Kris Shaw is a native of Montana and works as a professional framer. She has always had an interest in art and has always been creating something of her own or “improving” patterns of others. She took as many art classes in school as she could and continues to learn by attending various workshops and community education classes. She enjoys exploring new techniques and pushing the media to learn what she can do. She's not one to shy away from a challenge, and enjoys doing whatever people say "cannot be done." All the world and her imagination are references for her subject matter. Kris also likes to begin by putting color onto the paper, and then finding her subject---like finding interesting shapes in clouds. Shaw works primarily in watercolor, but she enjoys exploring new techniques in pencil, and pastel painting, as well as ink, pen and ink, and collage. In addition to her two-dimensional artwork, Kris enjoys the challenges of three-dimensional artwork using wire, and also creates original jewelry, created from printed papers. Kris is an active member and secretary of the Havre Art Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Montana Watercolor Society (MTWS). She is Chair for the MTWS Annual Members Art Show held each spring in Lewistown, Montana---which also includes a watercolor workshop, featuring a Montana artist as its instructor. She is the co-founder of Artitudes Co-operative Gallery, Inc. in Havre, and is currently serving as its president. Kris’s recent showings include High Plains Gallery and Artitudes Gallery in Havre, the Lewistown Art Center, the Montana Seed Show in Harlem, and the Tumbleweed Gallery in Big Sandy, MT. Kris was accepted into the MTWS Watermedia show in Bigfork for 2001 and 2002. Kris has won several awards including “Best of Show” at the Montana Seed Show, and awards at the MonDak Heritage Center, Montana Interpretations Show in Butte, and MIA-Bozeman Annual Show, and the Lee Morrison Award in the 2005 MTWS Members’ Show in Lewistown. |
